US researchers got 149 men and women to rate the attractiveness of a series of recorded voices. They found the most appealing voices belonged to people who had sex at an earlier age, had more sexual partners and were more prone to infidelity.

The team at the University at Albany also said there was a link between the attractiveness of the voice and body. In the study, men with broad shoulders and narrow hips, which are related to testosterone and growth, also tended to have attractive voices. In women, voice attractiveness, which was rated between one and 10 in the study, was linked to a narrow waist and broad hips.

Meanwhile Irene Frieze, professor of psychology and women's studies at the University of Pittsburgh, undertook yet another study to disprove the absurd notion that girls were more violent than men in dating situations. Frieze, according to Psychology Today, was dumbfounded to learn that of the college students she surveyed, 58 percent of women had assaulted their dates, compared to 55 percent of men.

Kanin, in over 40 percent of the cases reviewed, the complainants eventually admitted that no rape had occurred (Archives of Sexual Behavior, Vol. 23, No. 1, 1994). Kanin also studied rape allegations in two large Midwestern universities and found that 50 percent of the allegations were recanted by the accuser.

Kanin found that most of the false accusers were motivated by a need for an alibi or a desire for revenge.

Fewer than half of the men thought looking after their own appearance was important although nearly two-thirds thought it was important for a woman to do so. Women were harder on themselves though, with a whopping 92 percent saying keeping their body in shape was important.
