In many conversations I've had about sexism and sex work, I'm usually told that it's empowering for women to use sex. But I don't buy it. If women have so much sexual power through using sex and through sex work, why aren't men lining up to do it? Heck, I know a lot of women who would use their services.
But that won't happen because men have the cultural power. Why would they work in what is basically the service industry? No one wants service industry jobs, for heaven's sake, and fantasies of hottie customers aside, the reality of sex work isn't glamorous or powerful. It turns a perfectly wonderful hobby into a chore.
It's far more powerful to be in the class that can buy and pay for services than to be in the class that provides them.
